Improving Services For LGBT People In Scotland

Whilst lesbian gay and bisexual people now have legal equality in Scotland, many LGBT people still experience prejudice and discrimination in their daily lives. Unhealthy Attitudes Scotland, released in August 2015, revealed that LGBT people still have poor experiences of health and social care, with homophobic and transphobic language continuing to be a problem.

Our hate crime research in 2013 revealed that one in six LGBT people in Scotland have experienced a hate crime in the last three years.

LGBT hate crime and LGBT experiences of health and social care remain key concerns for Stonewall Scotland, and we’re committed to working with the public sector to tackle these vital issues.

As part of this, Stonewall Scotland will be hosting a series of round tables focusing on LGBT hate crime and LGBT experiences of health and social care. These round tables will give key organisations the opportunity to discuss these issues, to hear how other key agencies are responding to these issues and share best practice, as well as to talk with Stonewall staff.

Round tables will be held in Inverness, Aberdeen and Glasgow, and are open to all interested parties.

The first session (09:30 until 11:00) will focus on health and social care, followed by an discussions on hate crime from 11:30 until 13:00. Attendees are very welcome to attend either or both sessions, and all attendees will be invited to stay for a networking lunch afterwards.
