Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill, has been nominated as Britain’s ‘Most Admired Charity Chief Executive’ in Third Sector’s annual ‘Most Admired Charities’ awards. The awards are voted for by chief executives of charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises, rather than a panel of judges.
Stonewall Deputy Chief Executive, Laura Doughty said: ‘We’re thrilled that Ben has been nominated for this award. It recognises the real progress Ben and Stonewall have achieved in terms of equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual people at home, at work and in school in recent years.’
Ben Summerskill was appointed Chief Executive of Stonewall in March 2003 and has successfully led several parliamentary campaigns including the introduction of civil partnerships. Ben has also led significant organisational growth across Stonewall in the last eight years including developing the Diversity Champions good practice programme for employers, which now has 600 members across the private (IBM, American Express) and public (Royal Navy, MI5) sectors. And in 2005 Stonewall launched its Education for All campaign, supported by a coalition of over 70 organisations, to tackle and prevent homophobic bullying in schools.
The deadline for voting is Monday 22 August.
