In 2007, Stonewall published the School Report, which exposed the real extent of homophobic bullying in schools.

It showed that 68% of young gay Scots are bullied in schools, yet only one in five Scottish schools say that bullying is wrong.

Stonewall Scotland's work on education is focussed on tackling homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools. We take part in the UK-wide Education for All campaign, managed by Stonewall, and campaign here in Scotland to raise awareness of the problem of bullying within the Scottish educational system.

All young people have the right to feel safe and be themselves at school, and our work includes talking with local authorities, politicians, and journalists to help ensure bullying is dealt with and prevented.

Stonewall Scotland is also involved in Education for All Scotland, which brings together a range of organisations and stakeholders north of the border. The purpose of the coalition is to make sure that information is shared; that we keep up-to-date with LGBT work in education; and to agree how best we can work together to achieve common goals. Meetings are held on a quarterly basis.
