The Workplace Equality Index (WEI) is organised by Stonewall and is open to employers all over Britain. Stonewall Scotland promotes the index north of the border, providing assistance and support to Diversity Champions Scotland members who wish to enter the WEI.
The top Scottish employers in the 2007 Workplace Equality Index are Halifax Bank of Scotland, The Scottish Executive, The Royal Bank of Scotland, and Lothian and Borders Police.
The WEI is the definitive national benchmarking exercise, showcasing Britain’s top employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff. Top employers use the Index as a key benchmarking tool, measuring their own performance in relation to competitors as well as to ensure they are delivering world class services.
The Index measures 20 criteria covering policy and practice — from having a non-discrimination policy promoted to all staff, that includes sexual orientation, to advertising in the pink media, and from supporting a lesbian and gay employee network group to having an openly-gay senior member of staff.
The best organisations in the WEI are members of the Diversity Champions programme.
