Thank you so much for considering leaving a gift in your Will to Stonewall.
We know it's a big decision and we really appreciate you taking the time to consider supporting us in this special way.
With your support we can create a world to be proud of, together.
- We are proud to support Stonewall
"Stonewall has had a huge effect on our lives and on the LGBTQ+ community. We feel more valued, more confident, and that we can play a role in society without having to hide in the shadows.
We think we were the first gay men to foster, and it was the best thing we ever did. We became civil partners on the first day it was possible and later married on the first possible day . We strongly believed in doing that, not only for ourselves but because Stonewall was instrumental in getting both on the statute book.
Despite the progress that’s been made, there’s still so much to do. It may be several generations from now until Stonewall can truly say ‘job done’, especially internationally. Leaving a gift in our Wills is our way of supporting the future of all our fellow LGBTQ+ citizens. They have a huge effect on our lives and on the LGBTQ+ community. We feel more valued, more confident, and that we can play a role in society without having to hide in the shadows."
Howard and Rod, Stonewall supporters.
- Our work
Thanks to our supporters, we’ve been involved in every major social and legal battle for LGBTQ+ equality in the UK for over 30 years, including:
- An equal age of consent for gay and bi men
- The end of Section 28
- Same-sex couples becoming free to adopt children
- LGBTQ+ people becoming free to serve openly in the Armed Forces
- Protection from discrimination at work
- Civil partnerships and marriage for same-sex couples
- LGBTQ+ couples can be legally recognised as parents
- LGBTQ-inclusive teaching in the national curriculum
Over the last 10 years, Stonewall has received nearly £1.8m through gifts in Wills. Gifts have ranged from £500 to tens of thousands, all of which have enabled us to secure rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
We have travelled a path from Section 28, and the total suppression of LGBTQ+ identities in schools, to children learning about our lives, families and relationships as part of the national curriculum in most of the UK. We’ve gone from a world where our relationships were criminalised to one where we have equal rights to love. And, for those of us who want to, equal rights to marry or have children.
All of this has been possible because of supporters like you, but we know more change is desperately needed. We all have a part to play in creating a world where everyone, everywhere can be themselves, and your help can make all the difference.
- How a gift in your Will can help the LGBTQ+ community
Thanks to gifts in Wills, Stonewall can continue to support the LGBTQ+ community by:
- Partnering with thousands of leading employers to ensure workplaces are safe and accepting places for all LGBTQ+ people.
- Working with thousands of teachers and their schools to help them tackle anti-LGBTQ+ bullying and put the wellbeing and support of LGBTQ+ students at the heart of our education system.
- Running campaigns like Rainbow Laces, with almost one million LGBTQ+ people and allies lacing up to make sport everyone’s game.
- Partnering with international organisations who provide vital support to LGBTQ+ people in countries around the globe.
- Commissioning and conduct new research into the lives of LGBTQ+ people, providing evidence to governments that LGBTQ+ people still need more support in areas across healthcare, hate crime and housing.
- Campaigning for vital legislation to protect our communities, including a total ban on the cruel practice of conversion therapy.
- What kind of gift can I leave to Stonewall?
A residuary legacy is a percentage of what remains of your estate once your loved ones have been provided for and any debts or expenses have been deducted.
This is a gift of a specified sum of money of your choosing.
This is a gift of a specific item, such as a piece of jewellery, an antique or a property.
This is a gift you leave to someone for a set period of time, before it passes to another beneficiary. For example, you may wish for a loved one to live in your house for their lifetime, before it is left to charity when they pass away.
