Lloyd Wilson
Lloyd Wilson (born 22 August 1990) is a Senior Listed Scottish Football Referee operating across the Scottish Premier Football Leagues.
Lloyd began his refereeing career in 2010 at the tender age of 20 years old and progressed very quickly through the refereeing ranks in Scotland, reaching ‘category 1’ status after successfully refereeing the Scottish Junior Cup Final in May 2018.
Lloyd has been selected for a number of prestigious refereeing appointments domestically and has attended a number of international countries where he has also refereed, significantly aiding his development.
Lloyd has contributed to the coaching and development of less experienced referees since commencing his refereeing journey and has presented at a number of different forums to promote refereeing.
Lloyd hopes to use his recent experience of coming out as gay in football to help shape the culture in a more positive way for those developing in the game or indeed currently involved who feel unable to be them true selves.
Lloyd is keen to use his experience as a professional in education, social work and sport to promote the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community to help create a culture where identifying as gay becomes the norm and avoiding the stigma that is currently linked to this across many sports, in particular men's football.
Lloyd has recently been appointed a Stonewall Sports Champion.
Lloyd regularly engages in public speaking and educational development sessions to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people as well as helping increase visibility.
Lloyd feels the lack of visibility in football undoubtedly contributed to him being unable to be his true self, an environment he believes continues to be extremely difficult for those who identify as LGBTQ+ to be in.
Lloyd is extremely motivated and eager to continued to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and challenge inequalities.
